Physics constitutes  the very foundation of men’s efforts to understand nature. The laws of physics, which are reached through observations and careful experimentation, find applications from the subatomic particles to the astronomic formations such as stars and galaxies.The purpose of a physicist is to enrich our knowledge about the universe through these laws and the underlying mathematical formalism. Physics also contributes to society by providing an explanation for the behavior of complex systems such as molecules, solids, liquids, even living organisms. The design of advanced technology materials,the fabrication of semiconductor devices, the development of optical communication systems have mostly evolved as applications of ideas and observations that originally came from physicists.

Koç University Mathematics Department despite its relatively recent foundation became one of the main research centers in mathematics in Turkey. The department has 15 research mathematicians and an ever-increasing number of Ph.D. students. Thanks to its small size, there is a close interaction between faculty members, graduate students and undergraduate students. This is exhibited in the many topics and independent study courses offered to the undergraduate and graduate students by the faculty and the weekly tea hours and seminars where faculty interact with students creating a community that is inspiring for everyone involved.

Students in Molecular Biology and Genetics program will take classes that provide fundamental knowledge of the different branches of biology. These courses include: biochemistry,  molecular biology, genetics, cell biology and developmental biology.

The Molecular Biology and Genetics program also offers various elective courses for advanced students who wish to focus on specific areas, such as cancer biology, neuroscience, proteomics, and bioinformatics.

The Department of Chemistry offers an undergraduate program that provides a broad, rigorous and flexible education for work and advanced study in a variety of fields and invaluable training in the laboratory for today’s increasingly technical world. Parallel to the mission of a liberal arts education at Koç University, the Chemistry undergraduate program has the ability to adapt to the specific interests and career goals of the students.
