Bilkent University was founded in 1984 as Turkey’s first private, nonprofit institution of higher education. With world-renowned scholars on its faculty and excellent educational facilities throughout its campus, Bilkent today attracts many of Turkey’s brightest high school graduates. The university hosts over 13,000 students pursuing degrees in 34 undergraduate and 58 graduate programs.
Bilkent University prides itself on its truly international perspective. The medium of instruction at Bilkent is English, and its international community of scholars and students forms an essential component of the university’s academic and social life. International faculty and instructors make up more than a quarter of all academic staff, representing 34 different countries. There is a growing body of full-time international students and exchange students coming from 73 countries.

The 500-hectare campus is only 12 kilometers from the center of Ankara, with easy access to the city’s parks, shopping areas, cultural activities, museums, and entertainment venues. In addition, Bilkent’s location in the historically rich Anatolian heartland allows easy access to other cities, traditional villages, stunning landscapes, historic sites, and places of great cultural interest throughout the country.
Campus has a variety of eateries at convenient locations for enjoying a quick snack or having a full meal with friends. Snack shops serving sandwiches, salads, soup, coffee, tea, and soft drinks are located in buildings around campuses. For a full meal, you can choose either a fixed menu with an affordable price at Table D’hote Cafeteria, or for a wider range of selections you can stop by A la Carte Restaurant or Coffee Break.
Bilkent dormitories – consisting of 26 buildings with various designs and features, provide a peaceful, secure, comfortable, pleasant, and hygienic atmosphere for more than 4,000 students from diverse backgrounds, who have chosen to take advantage of the excellence in higher education offered by Bilkent University. Our special and standard dormitories, all located on our Main and East Campuses, offer single, double, triple, quadruple, and suite accommodation alternatives for our students, at varying rates
In addition to offering a model academic environment, Bilkent University provides ideal social, cultural, and sports opportunities for students throughout the academic year to enrich student life in Bilkent. The Bilkent Spring Festival, held every May, culminates these events.
The majority of these activities are organized by the Student Council, which is elected by the students. Groups and clubs established with the support of the Council regularly organize talks, panels, concerts, exhibitions, competitions, parties, and festivals, and host numerous renowned politicians, business people, artists, and scientists.
Bilkent University is a leader in music and performing arts in Turkey. Bilkent Symphony Orchestra (BSO) performs regularly at the University Concert Hall and gives concerts in other parts of Turkey and abroad. Young actors studying at the Performing Arts Department have regularly scheduled performances.
